Why Regular Checkups Matter
Regular dental exams and cleanings let us catch cavities and gum problems early — before they become bigger, more involved issues. Many dental problems don't cause pain until they've progressed, so a checkup can find something you wouldn't notice on your own.
Preventive care is also the most cost-effective dental care. Treating a small cavity is simpler and less expensive than treating one that has grown or become infected.
What Happens at a Dental Exam
At each exam, we check your teeth for cavities, look at your gums for signs of gum disease, examine your bite, and screen for any other issues. We review your x-rays and talk with you about anything we find.
If treatment is needed, we explain what we found, what we recommend, and what it will cost — before anything is done.
Professional Cleanings
Even with careful brushing and flossing at home, plaque can harden into tartar in places that are hard to reach. A professional cleaning removes tartar buildup that a toothbrush can't, and polishes the tooth surfaces.
Cleanings also give us a chance to check your gum health and talk with you about your home care routine.
Digital and Panoramic X-Rays
Digital x-rays let us see between teeth and below the gumline — areas we can't examine visually. They help us find cavities, check bone levels, and look at the roots of teeth.
A panoramic x-ray captures the entire mouth in a single image, showing all the teeth, the jawbone, and the surrounding structures. We use it to get a broader view of your dental health.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and helps protect against decay. We apply a fluoride treatment at cleaning visits when it's recommended. It's quick and comfortable.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The grooves in molars are hard to clean thoroughly, and sealants help keep food and plaque from settling in them. We'll let you know when sealants are a good option.
Gum Health and Deep Cleanings
When gum disease has progressed beyond what a regular cleaning can address, a deep cleaning — called scaling and root planing — removes buildup from below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces to help the gums heal.
Our in-house periodontist, Dr. Eric Guirguis, DDS, MSD, provides scaling and root planing and other periodontal treatment in Largo. Having a periodontist in-house means you don't need a referral to another office.
Preventive Care for Kids
We see children ages 3 and up for cleanings, exams, fluoride treatments and sealants. Parents and kids can be seen at the same office.
See our pediatric dentistry page for more about children's dental care.
Night Guards for Grinding
Grinding or clenching your teeth wears down enamel and can cause jaw pain. A custom night guard protects your teeth while you sleep.
See our night guards and TMJ page for more information.
